Multi-stakeholder initiatives

Multi-Stakeholder Initiatives (MSIs) have become an increasingly common approach for addressing the governance gaps regularly encountered in global operations. MSIs now exist in a wide range of industries. We are working to identify and promote the characteristics necessary for MSIs to fulfill their governance roles.

There is a common saying that "what gets measured, gets managed." Companies and their employees naturally invest more resources in achieving outcomes they will be rewarded for. With this in mind, we are beginning to develop high-quality, industry-specific metrics that would help investors identify and reward companies that are leading the way on human rights issues.

shared responsibility

The root causes of human rights challenges are generally too big for any one actor to tackle alone. We recommend that industries take a "shared responsibility" approach, in which governments, international funding organizations, and businesses collectively discuss and fairly allocate the costs necessary for full and sustainable solutions.
