Online gaming companies, which boast more than three billion consumers globally, have been slow to counteract the exploitation of their sites by violent extremists and other bad actors.
Extremist groups and individuals are using the communication functions of online games and game-adjacent platforms to channel hate-based narratives, network with potential sympathizers, and mobilize for violent action. Our work identifies steps that gaming companies should take to counter such malign uses of their products.
