The Working Group on Gaming and Regulation welcomes the European Commission’s draft Guidelines on the Protection of Minors Online under the Digital Services Act, emphasizing the importance of a children’s rights-based approach. Drawing on expertise in gaming, platform regulation, and child safety, the group supports key provisions, including default safety settings, protections against exploitative monetisation (e.g., loot boxes), and a platform-wide design approach. They offer detailed recommendations to clarify terminology, strengthen age assurance and moderation practices, and expand transparency, oversight, and child participation. The submission urges the Commission to preserve strong protections and review the Guidelines regularly to keep pace with emerging digital risks.
